Geolocation, rebuilt
The biggest update yet for our least used tool. We checked the stats first and did it anyway.
A new map
A 3D globe on start, a dark map that matches the rest of the site, a satellite view with place names, numbered markers and the coordinates under your cursor. Right-click anywhere to copy the coordinates and open the spot in other mapping services. The map is also twice as tall.
Regions you can actually draw
Regions drawn on the image no longer show up as opaque black boxes. They are now drawn in an enlarged window with up to 12× zoom, and what you frame is sent to the analysis at full resolution: useful for a plate, a shop sign or a distant panel. Images in general are sent at a higher quality.
Search this zone
When you know roughly where a photo was taken, click a zone or a suggested location and choose Search this zone (5 tokens). The tool looks for the specific sites in that zone that match the photo (a farm, a quarry, a beach car park…), places each one at its address, then compares your photo with satellite imagery of every candidate. Each one gets a verdict and a score, and a confirmed site gets its marker moved onto the building itself.
Results you can read
Results are split into Locations, Zone search and Clues tabs. Cards are shorter, with the details folded away, the best candidate comes first and rejected ones are grouped at the bottom. Hovering a marker highlights its zone, and long searches show a progress bar with a timer.

Your searches, kept in your browser
A new Saved locally tab appears on Username Search, Geolocation and RhinoScraper. Nothing is sent to the server. Results are encrypted with AES-GCM in your browser's local storage, under a key derived from your account password. The store unlocks when you log in, so there is no second secret to remember. Each tool keeps its last 20 entries, compressed, and one button clears everything. Changing your password makes older entries unreadable, and the interface will say so instead of showing garbage.
A refreshed interface
The default theme is lighter and less cluttered.
3615 mode
We are French, so there is now a 3615 switch in the header that turns the whole tool into a Minitel. The font is the terminal's own, taken from Zigazou's Minitel-Canvas project, released under CC0. Eight videotex colours, scanlines, a blinking block cursor, and not a single translucent pixel, because a Minitel had none. Your choice is remembered between visits.

End of "free tokens"
It's a shame, but some users are abusing the system of tokens offered upon creation by using multiple email aliases.
This site is operated by a very small French company, and it costs money to run.
Packs start at €5 for 50 tokens, which is not a huge amount and allows the site creator to break even.
